Construction, Industrial and Demolition Resource Recovery – cutting demolition waste.

Construction, Industrial and Demolition Resource Recovery Ltd (CIDRR), is New Zealand’s largest building waste recovery facility, which has commenced a new sort line recovering wood chippings and plasterboard.

It is the only comprehensive landfill diversion facility for construction and demolition waste in Auckland.

Nearly 70 per cent of the material that enters the site can be recovered, 40 per cent of which is wood waste. The wood waste is chipped on site and reused as a replacement for fuel with more than 300,000 cubic metres having been supplied so far.

At present a new home build creates around four tonnes of waste. With 39,000 new homes pledged for Auckland, that’s 156,000 additional tonnes of waste. The CIDRR facility has the capacity to recycle 109,000 tonnes of that waste material and divert it away from landfill.

In four years the facility has recovered more than 110,000 tonnes of products from waste but has the potential to recover up to 160,000 tonnes per year.

Construction, Industrial and Demolition Resource Recovery is a finalist in the 2015 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards in the Auckland Council Mega Efficiency Impact category.
