Green Cabs finalist story.
Green Cabs started planting trees before its first car was even on the road. In 2007, Green Cabs partnered with Trees for the Future to offset the impact of the company’s operations and fleet on the environment.
Green Cabs also supports Trees for Survival and has planted over 210,000 trees across New Zealand and the world.
Green Cabs practises a sustainable way of life in the company’s offices by recycling and reducing paper use as much as possible. Managers and drivers in each of the five operational cities (Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Christchurch, and Queenstown) contribute regularly to local events and participate in planting and clean up days.
All cars are hybrid and low emission vehicles. The company tracks the emissions of each account holder to let them know exactly how many trees and carbon emissions they have saved by using Green Cabs. The more people who choose Green Cabs as their taxi service, the more trees that can be planted. Last year, 76 tonnes of CO2 was saved from the atmosphere due to Green Cabs’ hybrid cars and planting initiatives.
Green Cabs is a finalist in the Restorative Impact and Communicating Sustainability categories of the 2016 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards
