Harrison Grierson is a leading NZ-owned engineering and design consultancy constantly seeking measurable ways to enhance our natural, social and built environments and to make life better for everyone.
From our regional base in NZ, we work in four key market sectors of land and buildings, water and the environment, utilities and transport throughout Australasia and the Pacific Rim.
Our commitment to sustainability is fully aligned with our company values, vision and strategic goals. We challenge ourselves to think creatively to find genuinely innovative solutions for our clients and their projects, big or small. Our determination to help make the world a better place springs from the legacy of our 130 year company history, the pioneering spirit of our founders and the focus and dedication of our team of 300 professionals.
What or how does your business contribute to a more sustainable NZ?
Finding sustainable solutions is at the heart of our approach to projects. We committed to sustainability in 2007 when we established a Sustainability Advisory Group to promote sustainability awareness and initiatives via our first Sustainability Policy.
As well as investing significantly in our own sustainability performance, we offer a wide range of services contributing to the sustainability of our communities and the environment, including:
• Urban structure planning / masterplanning;
• Stormwater catchment plans;
• Low impact urban design and development (incl. stormwater design);
• Flood mitigation strategies;
• Sustainable water supply and wastewater engineering;
• Policy/consenting for renewable electricity sector;
• Affordable housing projects;
• Building energy performance simulation and auditing;
• NABERS NZ accredited certifiers;
• LEED Neighbourhood Design certified.
Internally, we produce an Annual Sustainability Report on our own carbon footprint and we’re proud of our ISO 14001 environmental certification (we have a comprehensive system covering quality, health, safety and environment). We also support our staff to contribute to a variety of community initiatives and have introduced Skype for Business and videoconferencing infrastructure to reduce travel between offices and to meetings.
Certifications & sustainability programmes
We are certified to ISO14001.
A number of staff are certified for NABERS NZ energy auditing and LEED-ND (neighbourhood design) assessments. Others have undertaken “The Natural Step” training course and/or have graduated with a Diploma in Sustainable Practice (Otago Polytech).
