Palmerston North City Council has a range of sustainability initiatives, including:
A 100KW solar farm on the roof of the civic administration building
Protecting 40 sq.km of regenerating native bush with an extensive network of predator traps;
Planting 150,000 trees through the 'green corridors' programme which connects the Tararua Range to the Manawatū river;
A growing fleet of hybrid electric vehicles and electric bicycles;
An ongoing programme to replace all existing street lights with LEDs, which is expected to reduce energy costs by 59%, and maintenance costs by 70%;
Supports homeowners looking to make their homes warmer, drier and more energy efficient with free, independent, in-home consultations from our 'Eco Design Advisor'.
