Progressive Group is a Hamilton-based Engineering Group, moulded around the hydraulic industry. Our philosophy is “To supply simple, technically elegant solutions to industry in an environmental and socially sustainable manner”.
Started in 1992, Progressive Group has gained an enviable reputation for supplying technically elegant solutions to the renewable energy, recycling, forestry, construction and manufacturing industries. Many export successes utilising hydraulics were designed by us. We have been involved in most of the major projects carried out in the Central North Island and several in the South Island, including upgrades to all the dams in the Waikato, Waikaremoana, Waitaki, Manapouri and Ohau generation systems. We have been heavily involved in the design and installation of some of the largest geothermal systems in NZ, controlling the steam fields, reinjection and generation, with double and triple redundancy failsafe designs. Most of these are bespoke designs, unique to our client’s requirements. Around 20% of all renewable electricity generated in NZ utilises systems designed by us.
We have an integrated design office utilising Solid Works Premium CAD design software, incorporating mechanical simulation, flow simulation, stress analysis and Product Data Management. We design a wide range of equipment, not all involving hydraulics. Many utilise PLCs for safety and optimum performance.
We were involved in solving several issues involving specialist machinery on the 400KV line for the Transpower BBUGL alliance. This involved assessing, designing and building new equipment at short notice.
Our team has many years of experience with a broad cross section of skills and knowledge.
We operate a full hydraulic workshop from a modern, energy efficient premises, with a high stud overhead gantry, in addition to normal engineering and fabrication facilities.
Our precision machine shop boasts some of the most modern precision CNC equipment, including 4 axis machining centre and 5 axis powered tooling Okuma lathe. We operate Cam software for complex 3D tool profile generation, optimising tool path and life. We have the ability to design and manufacture in house, allowing us to monitor our quality throughout the entire process, implement Lean practices and provide our clients with quality products we are all proud of.
We have designed and marketed several unique pieces of equipment in our own right, including the award winning WoodWeta hogger / shredder, Katipo Tilting Hitch, Kakapo Impactor post and pile driver, RailCheetah fence tools and several other unique products.
Our team has won numerous awards for their design flair and passion, including the De Gussa award for innovation and Vodafone best use of technology.
We believe in sustainability in all facets of the business. We practise what we preach, operating our workshops and office as Zero Waste for the last 12 years.
If you have an idea that needs some design flair involving fabrication, metal and machining, come and talk to us; we would love to assist and be part of your journey.
