B Impact Assessment tool: how does your business measure up?.

Looking for a free, confidential assessment of your company’s social and environmental performance? Check out the B Impact Assessment, which measures the overall impact of a business on all stakeholders.
The B Impact Assessment is an online tool run by the US not-for-profit organisation B Lab that helps businesses assess their impact on different stakeholders – including employees, suppliers, customers, community and environment.
Businesses can use the B Impact Assessment to:
- Assess their current impact on all stakeholders, measured through 50-150 easy-to-answer questions;
- Review and compare their B Impact Report, which provides an objective rating of their current performance;
- Improve their impact through access to tools and best practice guides.
B Lab is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. It created the B Corporation certification for companies, awarded when organisations meet certain standards of transparency and sustainability. And in case you were wondering, the ‘B’ stands for ‘beneficial’.

Closer to home, the Sustainable Business Network has developed two other tools to help you assess your business’s sustainability performance:
- Get Sustainable Challenge – the largest business sustainability benchmarking tool in New Zealand.

The tool is free to SBN members and available to non-members at a cost.

Another example of a local and free online sustainability assessment tool is from The Sustainability Company who offer a review matrix. The matrix provides a quick "snapshot" assessment of where a business is at, allows customisation to each business' needs and prompts broader sustainability thinking.
