What we do
In South Auckland unemployment is high and wages low. The Puhinui Stream flows from Manurewa, through Ōtara and Papatoetoe and out to the sea in Manukau. Local iwi collective, Te Waiohua has developed the award-winning ‘Te Whakaoranga o te Puhinui Strategy’. The Sustainable Business Network's role is to activate this project on the ground and to grow capability to implement the strategy. We aim to generate $16 Million over 4 years to enable regenerative work and careers to be created and a pathway of employment generated.
How we can help you to go circular
The Puhinui Regeneration Project began in January 2022. The project currently employs five locals who have been equipped with tools, training and support to begin regenerating their catchment. A local nursery partner will soon be onboard hiring two more staff to grow plants for the regeneration work. Our goal is to employ over 50 local people over the next four years. Some will work directly in the field and others indirectly though roles that develop education pathways and tackle pollution at the source. We measure how many trees are planted, how much area has been treated for plant and animal pests and many other metrics to track the impact of your investment in nature regeneration. Nothing paints a story like before and after photos of once neglected and now restored landscapes. These are provided along with stories of personal and social impacts through regular communications from SBN.
