What we do
UPPAREL collects and sorts textiles into what can be reworn (for donation to charity partners) and what is unwearable (which moves on to a recycle/upcycle process). In partnership with local businesses, UPPAREL creates new products from recycled textiles as well as uses the ‘felting’ method to create filling for mattresses, cushions, bean bags, pet beds, home insulation, roading, building and construction materials.
We have attained Certified B Corporation status and were awarded 5 Star Corporate Social Responsibility Australia accreditation.
How we can help you to go circular
UPPAREL’s Auckland facility receives an inflow of textiles, garments, PPE, uniforms, shoes, boots and belts (even hard hats) from several major NZ corporates. To date, UPPAREL has collected and diverted over 10 million items from landfill by giving new life through its initiatives.
These include:
- Recycle: ‘fit for wear’ or recyclable items are given a second life through Upparel’s social enterprise programme.
- Repurpose: Textiles are washed, shredded, transformed into a non-woven felt material and cut to size, laminated or finished with an outer fabric covering into 100% recycled products, such as homewares, furniture and construction items, including the world’s first 100% recycled kids’ sofa, FlipUP™.
