What we do
As a food rescue organisation, we act as the connector between food retailers, wholesalers, growers, and community organisations, such as food banks, that are already helping out those in need. Our vehicles are on the road Monday to Friday picking up near-end-of-date stock that isn't able to be sold, or surplus produce from our donors that might otherwise be dumped in landfill. It is then redistributed to about 40 community organisations.
How we can help you to go circular
We can redirect your surplus produce or near-end-of-date stock that might otherwise be considered 'waste'. This edible food is collected, carefully stored, inspected, and sorted by our dedicated volunteers who redistribute it to local food banks, community organisations and schools.
It is estimated that 1/3 of all food produced is wasted. The emissions released from wasted food accounts for 10% of all global greenhouse gases, making it the third largest contributor behind China and America (United Nations Environment Project, 2021).
We rescue 5 tonnes of edible food every week. With the cost of living skyrocketing and demand for food increasing, food security is becoming a serious issue across New Zealand communities. We need more food donors to help meet this need. We are serious about helping New Zealand become a circular economy by reducing waste, and redirecting your edible food to those who need it most.
