What we do
A key part of our work involves hand-sorting and separating waste items on site. This ensures everything is redirected to the most suitable recovery facility or recipient. We don't stop trying until we find a home for anything that can be re-used, repurposed or recycled. Dealing with waste sustainably gives us the opportunity help the environment and also to contribute to communities. We gift items to charities, community groups and social enterprises.
How we can help you to go circular
Junk Run was founded in Auckland in 2005 with a clear focus on what we wanted to achieve – to not only serve our customers by removing unwanted waste, but to turn that waste to good use wherever possible by keeping it out of landfill.
The social and environmental return on recovered materials is more important to Junk Run than the financial return. In contrast to many other waste disposal companies, our comprehensive and transparent bespoke real time reporting means Junk Run has accurate figures on the proportion of waste we collect that goes to charities and partners here in New Zealand (and overseas), other re-use, recycling, and lastly, landfill (over 70%). These reports can be provided to you to help you understand where your waste items end up, and how purchasing decisions can have a massive impact on your environmental footprint.
Our mission to “send waste to a better place” lies at the heart of everything we do.
