  • Profile

Kia Ora, Paradigm is a sustainable communications, design and print business committed to creating better futures for our communities and this extraordinary earth. Eco printing with vegetable inks, recycled papers, non-PVC display, signage…

Paradigm is an Auckland design company specialising in what we loosely describe as ‘public interest’ work. Areas of special interest are: environment and sustainability, social justice, public health and the arts. Where we do commercial work it is because those businesses also share our values, eg. ecostore.

Graphic design and print is what we do most of, including identity design, all manner of print from posters to books, pencils and pens, newsletters, cards, clothes, banners, displays, signage… we design and produce interpretation signage and visitor centres, websites, EDM, direct mail, labels – specialising in the most environmentally friendly and sustainable production and materials available.

We also design and produce more specialised items with swamp kauri, even lasered stone, eg. one-off awards and trophies. We can provide a one-stop-shop for anything involving design, print and manufacture, but are equally happy to work with existing client suppliers.

We are Mac-based and can handle almost any files (apart from Publisher and Corel Draw) – up to 10MB by email, otherwise we recommend Sendspace. Our offset printing is predominantly vegetable-oil based inks on either recycled or TCF paper stocks. Our websites are developed using Drupal, a stable and evolving open-source solution with no licensing fees.

Visitors are always welcome to visit our Auckland office, for a coffee, for a meeting, to work alongside the designers. With the garage door open in summer, Brown Street is a happening place. Trouble is, we seldom get time to relax!

    Sustainability Actions:

Paradigm was established in 1989 with a clear focus on embedding social and environmental values in our work, in fact well before the design community discovered sustainability. We carefully select materials and use suppliers with a clear focus on good environmental practice. Over many years we have grown and planted thousands of native trees and shrubs as part of bush, wetland and riparian regeneration projects in Auckland and Taitokerau. We run a lean business model, have very low energy use but still source from 100% renewable power supplier Meridian, work flexible hours to minimise non-productive Auckland traffic time wasting, and generally work only with clients who share the sustainability kaupapa.
