    Comvita (NZX:CVT) is a global natural health company committed to the development of innovative products, backed by ongoing investment in scientific research.  

    We are the world leaders in Manuka (leptospermum) honey and fresh-picked Olive Leaf Extract, which are at the core of the Comvita product range.

    We have approximately 50 per cent of honey supply under direct ownership or control, with the balance of supply from long term contractual and partnership arrangements. Comvita pioneered the development and use of medical grade Manuka honey and was the first to receive FDA approval (2007). We partner with US wound care company Derma Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ:DSCI), the global licensee for Medihoney® specialist wound care products, which are used in hospitals and medical centres around the world. Comvita’s freshly picked Olive Leaf Extract is grown, harvested, extracted and bottled at the world’s largest specialised olive leaf grove, with over one million olive trees.

    Comvita sells into more than 18 countries through a network of our own branded retail locations, online (seven country specific e-commerce websites) and third-party outlets. We have over 500 staff located in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the USA.

    Sustainability Actions:

    Forty years ago we didn’t set out to create a sustainable business – we certainly didn’t call it that back then. However, because we worked so closely with nature and her source ingredients, we intuitively knew we had to build Comvita into an enterprise that could only prosper by working in harmony with nature, and by also reaching out to help people live healthier and more vibrant lives.

    We envisaged Comvita as the centre of a healthy ecosystem modelling nature’s own way of building healthy and diverse communities that can thrive together. Our early understanding of nature gave us the cues to go further than either growth at all costs or even mere sustainability. It led us to question how could we move beyond what could simply ‘sustain’ us, into how we could all prosper.

    In answering this question, we began a ‘journey of 1000 miles’ by taking the most obvious first steps. Operational changes included recycling of facility waste, the use of renewable energy and running a small fleet of energy efficient sales vehicles.

    Over time we encouraged sustainability thinking throughout Comvita, making it a natural part of our process development. A way of thinking that underpins decision making at all levels.
