In a completely new twist, Camp Glenorchy Eco Retreat is a sustainable getaway destination that is both good for the planet and comfortable, warm and welcoming. Designed and built according to the Living Building Challenge, one of the world’s highest standards of sustainability, Camp Glenorchy has been open since March 2018.
Set snugly between two soaring mountain ranges, a glacier-topped peak and the river-fed headwaters of Lake Wakatipu, Glenorchy is a unique destination with an endless variety of things to do, from the peaceful to the exhilarating to the sublime.
Offering a full range of accommodation options, conference rooms, conference packages, on-site catering and special getaway packages for independent travelers, Camp Glenorchy has something for everyone. Come and see it for yourself why we have been the only New Zealand accommodation nominated to TIME Magazine’s World’s 100 Greatest Places 2019.
Camp Glenorchy Eco Retreat was built to be sustainable and tread lightly on community infrastructure. Its cabins and homestead are designed to be very energy efficient in both water and room heating, using highly specialised systems. It is pursuing Net Positive Energy status, meaning it produces more energy than it consumes. This not only supports its own sustainability, but enhances community and business resilience in an area vulnerable to power outages.
All profits from Camp Glenorchy benefit the Glenorchy Community Trust, directed by local community members. The mission and vision of the community trust is to increase the vibrancy and resilience of the community of Glenorchy.
