Founded way back in 1990 by Dick and Diana Hubbard. Our purpose? Make Good Food. Then Make A Difference. We make natural, healthy, nutritious, delicious and sustainable food that’s good for you, fills you up and cheers you on along the way. What’s not to like? We want to fill the world with positive energy. Then go home happy.
It’s a little known fact that grumpy people make grumpy food. It’s true. As all those chefs on the telly say, ‘Words can’t describe food that’s been made with passion and love’. That thought is at the core of our simple philosophy – Happy People Make Happy Food. It’s something that Dick has believed in from the start. Our people make Hubbards what it is. That means our suppliers, the farmers who grow and nurture our ingredients, all of us in Mangere and perhaps more importantly, our customers. If we can make everyone as happy as possible at every step along the Hubbards journey, we’ll be going somewhere to making the world a better place.
Well, we can help our community in many amazing, caring and helpful ways. But sometimes a good starting point is looking at what our problems are in the first place. For example, our community’s health is a big worry. We’ve got unusually high statistics for illness and death from things like; diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory conditions and cancer. These things are preventable and are caused by smoking, poor nutrition, lack of exercise and harmful use of alcohol.
Our community also has big families. Big families can be cool. But they can sometimes be hard to feed and provide for. It also means that homes can be over crowded and that can cause illness. When it comes to wealth, unfortunately, we don’t have as much as others. Which in turn means we often don’t have things that others take for granted, like a computer, a phone or even a raincoat. We can also miss out on opportunity as well. Our post-secondary school qualification statistics are much lower than other areas and this can stop us having opportunities to ‘climb the ladder’.
Once we’ve figured out where we can make a difference, we need to get on and do the do. As a group, we’ve got what it takes to make big changes. As a group, we’re daring and caring and that way of thinking can go a long way in helping our community. Sure, some things we won’t be able to change over night, but sometimes even the smallest of change can make the greatest of difference. Our mission to make a difference and that starts with; Working with others in our community - there’s an old saying about many hands make light work... Well, there is some truth in that. If we work with others in our community, we can achieve bigger, better things. In this sense we promise to listen to and try and help others in our community who’ve got good ideas, be it a local church group, a school team or even just Stan from down the road. Daring to be leaders and look for opportunities where we can lead the way. Sometimes we’ll ask others to help us with the ideas we have. We will always lead by example. Finding ways to target the big opportunities in our community and help make the good better. No, we will help make ‘good’ AMAZING.
Looking to make one big and amazing difference at least once a year. We will also aim to make loads of little differences as well.
