Smarter Transport Award

This award, sponsored by New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) will be presented to an organisation that is moving New Zealand’s transport or tourism to renewables, using clever design, new technology or behaviour change.

We need a revolution in transport away from fossil fuels and towards low carbon, efficient and people-focused transport solutions. This could involve clever design, new technology or behaviour change. It includes avoiding travel (e.g. working from home or utilising technology solutions), shifting to lower impact transport modes (e.g. public transport or car sharing) and improving existing transport modes (e.g. electric vehicles).

This award will be presented to an organisation that is moving New Zealand’s transport or tourism to renewables (low carbon).

We asked NZ Transport Agency what inspired them to sponsor the NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards:

“Waka Kotahi, the NZ Transport Agency, is leading a shift towards a transport system that improves people’s wellbeing and the liveability of New Zealand communities. ‘Environmental Sustainability’ and ‘Healthy and Safe People’ are two of the five contributing outcomes on the journey to get there, and the NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards are an excellent opportunity to celebrate the progress being made.

There is currently a strong focus on reducing the reliance on private vehicles for getting around in our main cities, by better integrating land use and transport planning, improving transport options, and influencing the choices people make. The benefits to be gained from a smarter transport system are many, including a transition towards net zero carbon emissions and more vibrant, healthy environments that support physical activity, social connection and wellbeing.”
