Auckland Whale & Dolphin Safari offers wildlife eco safaris in the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park. It has established New Zealand’s only research-based marine mammal experience.
Auckland Whale and Dolphin Safari works closely with the Department of Conservation and local universities. Passengers are immersed in the scientific research efforts conducted on board and are able to enjoy expert education about whales, dolphins and other marine wildlife.
The company provides its vessel, the Dolphin Explorer, free of charge for the purposes of marine life and environmental science research efforts. It aims to create a platform of opportunity by contributing to dozens of PhD and Masters-level research studies. This has been recognised recently by the World Cetacean Alliance.
Over the past 17 years, more than 100,000 visitors have learnt the importance of conserving the natural habitat. From the very beginning the business was designed so the commercial and conservation aspects of what it does work in harmony. The idea is simple: if Auckland Whale and Dolphin Safari helps protect the Hauraki Gulf, it also helps protect the future of its business.
Auckland Whale & Dolphin Safari is a finalist in the Partnering for Good and Restoring Nature categories of the 2017 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards
