Deloitte NZ partnered Oxfam NZ and Deloitte DTTL to co-create an innovative solution to the logistical challenges faced when responding to disasters in the Pacific.
Using its resources and knowledge of supply chain challenges, Deloitte has created a framework toolkit that is scalable and transferrable.
The toolkit allows Oxfam to provide faster, less costly relief and improves the aid response. Oxfam has adopted the framework and it is estimated that up to 10,500 people will benefit from receiving aid more quickly in the 2016 cyclone season.
The open-source framework has also been shared with the NGO Disaster Relief Forum Aotearoa, the group of New Zealand organisations that respond to disasters and to other governments, UN agencies and international Deloitte and Oxfam affiliates.
Spurred on from this initial success, Deloitte NZ then collaborated with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs to build a network of New Zealand businesses and government departments. The purpose of this work is to increase the coordination and effectiveness of the private sector’s contribution to humanitarian work and disaster response.
Deloitte and Oxfam are finalists in the 2015 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards in the Community Impact category.
