Teacher Dr David Ivory is the Director of Social Enterprise and Head of the Commerce Facility at St John’s College, Hastings. His focus is for all students to live better lives through sustainable community engagement.
Students involved in his high level environmental and social project work have received national awards from government agencies and the private sector. David gives up his own time for this work, which has inspired both students and community.
David’s recent project involvement includes Te tuitui matauranga – a Te Reo team in the process of producing drought tolerant seeds (beans and peas) in partnership with Plant and Food Research and Wrightson Seeds. The Environ-Crete project integrates recycled materials into a new low-cost building product and uses plastic inventively with partnerships in Samoa.
Dr Ivory’s projects also include initiatives around community mental health. These models have drawn the interest of the Government Commission into Mental Health and Addiction who have visited the school to celebrate their work.
