Fisher & Paykel Healthcare is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of products and systems for use in respiratory care, acute care, surgery and the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. The company’s products improve health outcomes for millions of patients every year.
Fisher & Paykel Healthcare has started developing a robust carbon and energy management plan. The project has focused on electricity consumption, including installation of renewable solar generation on-site, and optimisation of freight planning.
The overarching goal is to reduce carbon emissions while the company continues to grow in manufacturing volumes and market penetration.
Projects focusing on the optimisation of electricity consumption have been underway since 2011. Freight optimisation became a major focus in 2015. Total carbon emissions were reduced by 22% during the last financial year, while carbon emissions from freight activities fell by 38%.
Energy efficiency projects have not required a trade-off between financial and environmental benefit. The efficiency projects add value to operations.
Fisher & Paykel Healthcare is a finalist in the Efficiency Champion category of the 2017 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards.
