The Good Neighbour Trust has a clear vision: to help neighbourhoods transform their communities. Its desire is to inspire people to get involved and strengthen communities by putting the ‘neighbour’ back into neighbourhoods.
Good Neighbour collaborates with many different organisations within the community and ensures that all ethnicities are equally represented. The Trust’s three main activities are: neighbourhood projects, food rescue service and community gardens. The focus of each of these projects is to enhance the lives of all who are involved, while using resources that are available locally.
Good Neighbour volunteers have contributed to over 5000 hours community service, diverted more than 55 tonnes of food from waste, supplied over 20 different community organisations with an estimated $385,000 worth of food, developed two community gardens and are in the process of establishing a corrections/justice department garden.
Good Neighbour Trust is a finalist in the 2015 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards in the EcoPro Cleaning Co Community Innovation Award.
