Jacqui Forbes is an uri (descendant) of Ngāruahine Iwi in Taranaki and the Kaihautū Matua (General Manager) for the Māori zero waste organisation Para Kore. Para Kore was established in 2008 and Jacqui has led it since the beginning, growing a kaupapa Māori zero waste education movement across Aotearoa. It supports more than 370 marae, kōhanga reo, kura kaupapa, Māori organisations and events.
Jacqui has established a nationwide team of zero waste educators who have delivered 600 presentations, 450 workshops and interacted with more than 200,000 people. Her goal is to raise awareness and understanding about reducing waste. The group distribute free recycling crates, wheelie bins, bilingual signage, compost bins and even chickens to participating organisations.
Jacqui fosters strong collective community-based change. Her leadership has raised millions of dollars for this cause. The Para Kore programme has diverted more than 2,300m3 of waste from landfills.
