Junk Run is a waste collection and recycling initiative that takes unwanted household and business items and diverts them from landfill.
Junk Run is committed to sustainability by recycling, reallocating and redirecting the waste materials it collects. Whenever possible, customers’ unwanted items are reallocated to community organisations, where they are needed the most. Out of all the waste materials collected, Junk Run diverts 86 per cent from landfills.
Over 11 years of operation, Junk Run has developed lasting relationships with a wide range of community groups and charitable networks. Donations to smaller groups, in particular, often have an immediate and direct impact.
Junk Run believes the responsibility for recycling should be with individual. It hopes to continue to build trusting relationships with the surrounding community and educate as many people as possible on sustainability practices.
Junk Run is a finalist in the 2015 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards in the Restorative Impact category.
