Rosetta Brown – Head of Sustainability, Rangi Ruru Girls’ School

Rosetta has been an active environmentalist from a young age. Now as Head of Sustainability at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School in Christchurch, she is a highly respected leader and inspires others through her commitment, drive and passion.

Rosetta has led a significant number of initiatives and programmes, principally focused on waste reduction, reuse and recycling promotion. She has worked not only with school students leading and co-creating initiatives, but also with the wider community, NGOs and businesses.

Rosetta has started a Sustainability Council, which informs students weekly about all things sustainable. She has encouraged school families to get involved in local planting projects, and she has organised a community market promoting sustainable lifestyle choices.  The Rangi Reuse Depot, which she runs, has contributed to the school being carbon neutral since 2017.

Last year Rosetta was one of three finalists in Keep New Zealand Beautiful Young Legend Award for her leadership in waste reduction. Recently, at a forum of NZ youth environmental leaders, she facilitated discussion with Jane Goodall.
