Join other SBN members in a one-day media training workshop where you will learn how to effectively deal with the news media, get your message across and protect your organisation’s reputation by staying on message when under pressure.

The workshop’s supportive environment will help you to confidently take part in all types of media interviews, including hostile interviews and unanticipated interview requests.

You will also learn how to develop stories and pitch them to the news media.

Learn valuable skills that will take you from the board room to presentations and beyond.

The workshop will cover:

  • The changing news media landscape in New Zealand and beyond
  • How to take control of interviews from the outset
  • Why key messages matter and how to use them during interviews
  • How to structure stories and interviews
  • Top tips for responding to expected and unexpected media inquiries (including ambush interviews) when under pressure or in a crisis situation
  • Broadcast interview tips and traps
  • Practice interviews, which will be videoed and played back for analysis and constructive feedback
  • Full course notes to take away

The workshop will be led by Suzanne McNamara from Cadence Communications.

Suzanne, who is a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of NZ, has more than 20 years’ media relations and media training experience.  She also runs Auckland University’s Executive Programme media training course.
