Million Metres Planting Day – Tomarata Farm

Love to get your hands dirty? Join the Million Metres team at a planting day on Tomarata Farm!

In 2016, Million Metres helped John and Geraldine Taylor to crowdfund to plant over a kilometre of Waiteitei stream. The stream runs through their farm. It is a tributary of the Hoteo river that feeds into Kaipara Harbour. We are gathering friends of the farm to help release the new plants (pulling long grass back from the young trees) and plant some additional trees at the project site.

Schedule for the day

10:30 am             Volunteers meet at the farm (we recommend providing 1.5 hrs for the drive from Auckland central)

10:30 am             Briefing about the project site and health & safety

11 – 1 pm            Planting and releasing

1 – 2 pm               Break for lunch (provided)

2 – 3 pm               More planting and releasing

3 pm                     Wrap up and head home!

What to wear and bring

Volunteers should wear warm clothes, sturdy shoes or boots and bring a raincoat just in case. Bring snacks, water, gloves and a spade (if you have one). Volunteers must provide their own transport to the site.
