A weekend of inspiration, innovation and conversation around sustainable off grid living.
The appetite and momentum to live more lightly, build our community resilience and not rely so heavily on centralised infrastructure is growing in New Zealand and globally. On Aotea/Great Barrier Island the community has been living off-grid for generations, creating their own systems for energy and water supply, finding their own ways to thrive and stay self-sufficient while being an island in the outer Hauraki Gulf/Tikapa Moana.
Off the Grid Festival celebrates the off-grid lifestyle on the island and provides unique opportunities for visitors and the local community to learn about what has been done historically and what could be done in the future to develop resilience for the changing times ahead. During the three days there will be workshops, discussions, tours and an expo to explore off-grid living across food, water, waste, energy and community.
Much of the programme is free and welcomes anyone across the local community and visitor population to come and join in.
Go to www.offthegridgbi.co.nz to grab your tickets and get more information on organising your trip to the island if you are a visitor. Places on many workshops are limited.
