Shout Out!!! Carbon Credits and Ecolabelling

Learn about Sustainable Business Network members through short & snappy pitches of their sustainable business practice.

Sustainable Business Network is excited to present a series showcasing our amazing members! Through five-minute pitches, we hear about what makes their business an exemplar of sustainable practice; how their service or product stands out within a low-carbon framework; or how they are transitioning to set the sustainable gold standard in their field.

Our first speaker of this week’s session is Sean Weaver: As CEO and founder of Ekos, he has turned forest conservation and climate change campaigning into a self-sustaining business. Ekos is a marriage of ecology and economics and brings together buyers and sellers of “look after the place” outcomes in an ecosystem marketplace. It helps businesses transition to zero carbon whilst developing and supporting high quality forest conservation carbon projects as a supply of carbon offsets for those businesses.

At a time of dramatic change, as Covid-19 deals a difficult hand to our country and region, the journey of building resilient landscapes and communities, and planning prudently for risk is core business. Sean will share his experiences as an innovator in facilitating the transformation of businesses and value chains towards a low carbon economy.

Next up is Francesca Lipscombe, General Manager of The New Zealand Ecolabelling Trust, which administers Environmental Choice New Zealand – the country’s only Government-owned ecolabel. Providing a credible and independent guide for businesses and consumers, the label gives assurance that a product or service has met internationally recognised, scientifically defensible standards and principles, based on robust scientific assessments.

ECNZ is aware the COVID-19 crisis has put pressure on businesses, including its licensees, and hopes they can weather the difficult times without compromising the excellent work they have done in reducing their environmental impact. Research tells us the community – consumers and employees – expects environmentally responsible behaviour from the companies they work for and buy from.

These pitches give insight into how many awesome thinkers are not just in New Zealand, but comprise part of the Sustainable Business Network family. Each week will feature two SBN Members, followed by ten minutes to ask questions or give comments. Support your SBN family, and help to create a resilient economy!

Although we are experiencing great economic uncertainty, there are so many businesses with great stories – this is your 30-minute lunchtime opportunity to learn about them. We look forward to your questions, and to seeing you there!
