For the last five weeks we’ve been hosting #mywaterwaynz – a photo competition bringing together individuals from all around New Zealand to celebrate the outstanding beauty and love we have for our rivers, lakes and waterfalls.
Congratulations to our two winners of #mywaterwaynz – James Martin’s stunning image of Wishbone Falls, Mt Aspiring National Park came first with 314 likes, and Emily Sillett’s adventure inspiring image of the Dart River, Otago came second with 172 likes. James has won a new GoPro with his image of Wishbone Falls. Emily has won seven days’ Jucy camper hire for her image of the Dart River.
We’ll be interviewing the winners this week to learn more about the photos and the stories behind them, so keep an eye out for our next story about them. But what we do know is that their absolutely stunning images of Wishbone Falls and the Dart River have wowed so many people. These photos were selected as finalists by our judges last week and have been up on Facebook for an online vote for the last five days.
We’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who entered the competition – your snaps were out of this world! We received nearly 200 entries from all around New Zealand. From Pakiri River in the North to Parakaunui Falls in the deep South. The waterways that were entered the most were Lake Wanaka (seven entries), Milford Sound (five entries), and Lake Taupo (four entries).
Your snaps of peaceful lakes, breath-taking waterfalls, adventurous rivers, and special moments with friends and family have been an inspiration. From all around New Zealand magic moments were captured and shared with a growing community of advocates for clean water in New Zealand.
Keep an eye open for #mywaterwaynz in the future – we will continue to develop this hashtag for sharing and celebrating New Zealand’s waterways, so keep tagging #mywaterwaynz in your snaps of your favourite lakes, rivers and waterfalls.
We are very grateful to SBN members All Good Organics and ecostore who sponsored the competition with great prize packs for five lucky spot prize winners.
A huge thanks must also go out to our key sponsors Wilderness, which sponsored the new GoPro, and Jucy camper rentals, which sponsored seven days’ camper hire.
