Calling creative fashion designers who also want to save the world: the Oversew Fashion Awards, New Zealand’s only upcycled fashion awards, are now open for entry.
With entrants from New Zealand and overseas, the Oversew Fashion Awards recognise designers who recreate, revamp and redesign pre-loved clothing into new fashion garments. The awards are a catwalk show where designers follow a brief to reuse existing garments to create a product of higher value or quality than the original.

“The concept was born from the desire to change our ‘throw-away’ fashion mentality,” says Robyn Cherry-Campbell, Director, Oversew Fashion Awards. “Per head of population in New Zealand 145 men-sized T-shirts make it into landfill every year. Through these awards we’re trying to raise awareness of the problem and help contribute to the solution of diverting clothing from landfill.”
Entries to the 2016 Oversew Fashion Awards close on 8 April and the winners will be announced at the awards night on 28 May in Carterton, Wairarapa. A range of prizes is on offer including the chance to be picked for the Space Between internship award.
Oversew Fashion are looking for additional sponsors for individual categories, so if you’re interested or would like to find out more please contact her.
