What a winter it’s been! Over the last four months, SBN’s waterway restoration programme Million Metres has been busy hosting planting days up and down the country, and we’re so proud of what we’ve achieved together!
At 15 planting days, 818 volunteers, including many SBN members, planted 11,147 seedlings along 1939 metres of Aotearoa’s waterways.
Thank you to everyone who got out planting! Together you’ve helped make a real difference to the health of our waterways. Thank you to our Foundation Partner Alsco, who co-hosted six planting days with us.
Those numbers don’t mention a heap more planting that Million Metres’ projects have been out doing as well. It’s been great to see all the community groups and landowners that have fundraised with us over the last year getting their plants in the ground.
As usual, alongside planting, we’ve been continuing to support communities to fundraise their waterway restoration.
There are a bunch of projects seeking support on Million Metres website right now. In the North Island there are:
- Four projects in Auckland – Waiheke Island, Papakura, Clevedonand Mount Albert.
- A wetland project in the Coromandel,
- A large, collaborative project on Mahia Peninsula,
- And the next stage of restoration on the Northern Wairoa River in Northland.
In the South Island there is:
Why not check them out and choose your favourite! And if you can, give it a little boost.
