Last Sunday Judith Holtebrinck, a beautiful, courageous and inspirational friend of a whole community and the SBN passed away peacefully in her sleep at Mercy Hospice with her beloved husband David and dog Coco at her side.
Dave Watson, our National Network Manager, remembers her:
I knew Judith as fellow Mt Eden resident and joined her on the committee of the Mount Eden Transition Town group, The Mount Eden Village People. Judith led this group with a passion for the environment and community that is rarely seen. Judith walked the talk and was a true champion and model of a sustainable future. Amongst the many inspirational actions Judith took and the transformative initiatives she led, her project of fruit tree planting across Auckland mainly on public land is a legacy that will endure for many more lifetimes. Next time you are driving through Mt Eden and see citrus and feijoa planted along the grass berm remember that was Judith Holtebrinck’s work. I will be watching them grow and I look forward to seeing my grandchildren climbing their branches for a snack on the way home from school.
Those who want to honour Judith and her work can donate to her community Fruit Tree Fund givealittle.co.nz/cause/fruittreesforauckland
