Social entrepreneurship: how you can become an agent for change

7 April 2014

Auckland Council and AUT are offering you the opportunity to learn how to be an agent for change in the business sector through a Social Enterprise Foundation Course.

Social entrepreneurs are individuals with solutions to society’s most pressing needs. The Social Enterprise Foundation Course, hosted at AUT Business School, is designed to provide an intensive introduction into the principles, practices and culture of Social Entrepreneurship.

The course is aimed at people of all ages who are new to the sector and who want to develop a strong base for future work. Students, budding entrepreneurs and those with an interest in creating change would benefit from attending the course.

“Social enterprise has a vital role to play in Auckland becoming the world’s most liveable city,” says Billy Matheson, course facilitator and principal advisor of social entrepreneurship at Auckland Council.

The course runs over 8 weeks and is made up of one 3 hour evening class each week and 3 hours of self-directed study each week.

Classes are from 5pm – 8pm on Wednesday evenings in room WF202 at AUT University. Each 3 hour class starts with a 30 minute seminar from a leading local Social Entrepreneur, followed by 2 hours of interactive workshop time, and finishes up with a goal-setting session for the following week. Please note that the programme involves an additional 3 hours of independent study each week.

Places are limited for so if you are interested in being involved then please get in touch as soon as possible. The full cost of the 8 week programme is $300 (+gst). Please get in touch if the price is a barrier to you being able to participate.
