Every March, Envirohub BOP promotes Sustainable Backyards month, to highlight, celebrate and support the fantastic range of local environmental initiatives run by individuals and community organisations throughout the Bay of Plenty.
Sustainable Backyards month is sponsored by Tauranga City Council (primary sponsor) and Western Bay of Plenty District Council. It’s also supported by Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
Envirohub BOP hopes the programme will be taken up throughout the Bay of Plenty and eventually nationwide, which has begun with Hannah’s Bay Community Restoration Trust in Rotorua adopting the programme over the past two years.
Envirohub BOP is currently preparing the 9th Sustainable Backyards programme with some great collaborative events planned for March 2014:
- EnviroFest 2014 at the Historic Village on the 22nd of March – a day of family fun with food, games, music, activities and workshops with tips on how to make your home sustainable.
- Sustainable Homes & Gardens Trail 2014 running throughout March (similar concept to the Christmas lights trail).
- Sustainable Art Challenge 2014 – from 1st Feb to 20th March for intermediate and secondary schools in Tauranga and the Western BOP, with categories including: Up-cycled Junk, Trash to Fash, Film and Photography. All culminating in an awards evening with a fashion show at Baycourt on Friday the 28th of March, followed by an exhibition on the 29-30th. Click here to download the information flyer.
Look out for SBN members Holistic Vets, Community Energy Network/Sustainability Options, and PowerSmart Solar, who are holding events during the month.
