This was a chance for participants to spend the morning out in nature with family, friends and work mates and to help in the restoration work that is happening here. Matuku Link is working to restore native habitat that links untouched kauri forest, a river valley, wetlands and the sea.
Over the course of the day, everyone took part in three activities led by Matuku Link volunteers. By the time people downed spades and headed back to the barn for a well-earned barbeque, together we had:
- Planted 750 native plants and trees along 75 metres of waterway
- Ensured the long term health of an additional large area of planting through maintenance work.
- Enjoyed a guided walk to learn more about the forest habitat and the wildlife it supports. And fed the eels!
Thanks so much to everyone who took part, to Alsco for their generous support and to the amazing Matuku Link volunteers for their organisation, expertise and passion for the environment.
News Flash! Matuku Link have just launched a new fundraiser with Million Metres. Check out their plans.
