In responding to the proposed changes we took the opportunity to advocate for fair taxation.
This includes calling for increasing fair taxation for ultra-high net worth individuals and corporations, via capital gains, inheritance taxes and other measures. This is so that charities are not increasingly left to deal with the negative consequences of inequitable and unsustainable systems.
We emphasise the importance of financial buffers for charities to weather economic fluctuations and crises, maintain operations during funding changes and align with multi-year philanthropic cycles.
We support increased safeguards for donor-controlled charities, while also rewarding, rather than penalising, the prudent financial management that enables larger charities to tackle the major systemic issues of our times.
