In February 2023, the Te Matau-a-Māui Hawke’s Bay region was devastated by the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle. The cyclone caused devastation and loss to businesses, property and heartbreakingly, lives. It was also the costliest tropical cyclone on record in the Southern Hemisphere, with total recovery costs estimated to be at least NZ$14.5 billion (PHCC, 2023).
One year on, this webinar will bring together directors to discuss a number of key questions including:
- What insights can directors learn from the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle on the Hawke’s Bay region, businesses and community?
- How is the region working collaboratively in the recovery phase to build back better, safer and smarter?
- How can directors and boards effectively identify and mitigate climate-related risk to their businesses?
- What should directors be doing to transition their businesses?
- What are the future challenges around access and cost of insurance for climate-related risk in light of increasing probability?
