Formerly known as the Awa Rangers, we've transitioned to the Taiao Rangers, a name that better encapsulates our mission to not only protect but actively regenerate our environment. This change signifies our holistic approach, weaving together ancestral wisdom with modern conservation practices to create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
For those unfamiliar with our work, Te Pu-a-nga Maara Taiao Rangers are at the forefront of taiao regeneration, engaging rangatahi (youth) in meaningful ways while incorporating koorero tuku iho (ancestral knowledge) into our methodologies. Our vision extends beyond mere preservation; we strive to restore local ecosystems, revitalise the diversity within those ecosystems, and foster a profound connection between people and place.
- Revive: Central to our approach is the integration of ancestral knowledge into all aspects of our work. By honouring traditional knowledge and practices, we're not only preserving cultural heritage but also unlocking innovative solutions for environmental challenges.
- Reconnect: Our youth continue to flourish, empowering rangatahi to become stewards of the land. By providing mentorship, educational opportunities, and hands-on experiences, we're nurturing the next generation of environmental leaders.
- Regenerate: We're doubling down on our efforts to involve local communities in our projects. Through educational workshops, community plantings, and interactive events, we aim to inspire a sense of ownership and pride in our shared environment.
- Strategic Partnerships: Collaboration is key to our success. We're forging partnerships with like-minded organisations, businesses, and government entities to amplify our impact and reach new audiences.
Looking ahead to the year, our focus remains steadfast on our mission to revive ancestral knowledge by reconnecting people to place while collectively regenerating the environment.
