The free Climate Action Toolbox, hosted on business.govt.nz, helps businesses create a tailored action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It now includes new guidance tailored to New Zealand manufacturers.
The release of the updates was marked today by The Honourable Andrew Bayly, the Minister for Small Business and Manufacturing. His visit to our office in Auckland also marked the release of a report identifying and mapping emissions and waste patterns in the advanced manufacturing sector. This was commissioned by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and created by Aurecon, thinkstep-anz and the Sustainable Business Network (SBN).
All businesses have a role to play in reducing emissions. The manufacturing sector is particularly important, as one of the largest sectors in the country.
The new guidance for manufacturers on the Toolbox includes advice on how to reduce emissions associated with products and packaging, as well as from manufacturing processes and transport.
Markets are changing, with new international sustainability regulations and growing expectations from customers. Exporters need to show their commitment to reducing emissions. The Toolbox can help.
Since the launch of the Toolbox in 2021, it has had more than 56,000 users and has expanded its resources. A free online carbon calculator was added in 2022. Resources for the construction industry were introduced in 2023.
The Climate Action Toolbox was created by the SBN and business.govt.nz, in partnership with BNZ, EECA, Spark, Waka Kotahi and design and development partners, DNA. New Zealand Trade and Enterprise has supported the new content for the manufacturing sector.
