Kickstart and Fonterra

KickStart Breakfast is a national breakfast in schools programme that aims to provide nourishment to children who need it most. It is run as a community partnership between Fonterra, Sanitarium and the Ministry for Social Development. Fonterra and Sanitarium provide the food, while the local school and community manage the breakfast itself. This partnership approach allows schools to run the clubs in their own way.

The programme works with schools to break down social stigmas through focusing on the education around the importance of having breakfast and applying an upbeat, fun club environment that allows kids to interact with their peers, teachers and local community. In addition, KickStart is committed to educating the community about the importance of recycling. Fonterra provides schools with recycling bins for their milk packs and franchisees collect the recycling.

KickStart Breakfast is now in its 10th year of operation, and last year alone it served over four million breakfasts.
