Steve Bush has managed Trees for Canterbury for more than 25 years with the aim of employing and educating people, and regenerating native plants. This year marks a milestone for the organisation, with one million trees planted.
Steve runs a sustainable nursery for people as well as plants. He works with people from all walks of life, in order to foster a sense of belonging and self-esteem through involvement in a worthwhile environmental project.
A natural connecter, Steve’s inclusive approach enriches the community. He shares his knowledge of plants, planting and the environment with schools, businesses and community groups. He is heavily involved in community planting days where the focus is on regenerating native areas across the Canterbury region.
Steve is an engaging speaker who can easily talk to the smallest of children or the oldest of retirees, commanding a captive audience through talking about the diversity of native plants. He has inspired others to bring their social consciousness to the forefront. He demonstrates the values of inclusivity and sustainability on a daily basis.
