Sudima Hotels sees itself as an organisation driven by social good and a custodian of the people whose livelihoods it provides for.
It is accredited by Be.Accessible as New Zealand’s only fully accessible hotel group. It has 45% of women in senior management and low staff turnover. It nurtures its people with initiatives like annual staff awards, wellness month, free online courses, and mentoring vulnerable youth.
Since 2013 it has served breakfast to hungry kids every school day in Rotorua. And since 2014 it has funded and mentored vulnerable Rotorua youth into hospitality management. It housed hundreds of people after the Canterbury and Kaikoura earthquakes.
Sudima Hotes operates New Zealand’s only three carboNZero accredited hotels. It measures carbon emissions, which are 3.5 times less than the average hotel. This year it launched a strategy to become single-use plastic free by 2020.
The hotel group believes staff engagement is key to success. Documenting the sustainability strategy has driven an acceleration of ideas and staff buy-in.
