- Profile
Sustainability Trust is a social enterprise that has been helping people across the Greater Wellington region warm up their homes and live more sustainably for over 15 years.
The Trust has a team of sustainability consultants that provide advice and support to businesses, communities and schools on how to live and work in more sustainable ways; with a focus on waste reduction, urban agriculture and sustainable living. They advocate locally and nationally for policies and law changes that will mitigate climate change.
Located in central Wellington, the Trust boasts an award-winning EcoCentre that can be booked for events and also offers a raft of business and household recycling options, including e-waste, batteries, bicycles and car seats. Our EcoCentre staff are always on hand to give advice about living more sustainably and offering eco-friendly products through its EcoShop.
Our Smart Energy team specialises in providing solutions for people’s homes, using a team of trained assessors who give free advice on insulation, heating, ventilation and lighting. Profits from the installation of products are used to support the charitable work that the Trust undertakes, like the Wellington Curtain Bank, which celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2020.
The Trust also delivers projects that reduce energy hardship in vulnerable households under its Fair Energy unit. This includes in-home assessments, advice provision, referrals and installation of energy efficiency measures in low-income, high health-needs whānau. The Trust advocates for greater funding, policies, and standards that will ensure upgrades to New Zealand’s poor-quality housing and see a reduction of energy costs.
Sustainability Trust is a proud member of The Community Energy Network (CEN), The Zero Waste Network (ZWN) and Environmental Hubs Aotearoa (EHA).
