Matuku Link joins World Wetland Day with a host of activities: stalls, food, coffee, guided walks, bird talks, bug hunts… and the opportunity to see the changes since buying the property in 2016 and spending over fifteen thousand volunteer hours improving the place, with two new boardwalks and a Wetland Education Centre. All free and all welcome.
Try to find one of the wandering Pateke (brown teal), spot a secretive spotless crake or even the namesake Matuku (bittern), or join one of the guided tours on bugs, birds, eels or flora & fauna.
Two family activities every hour and ample time to chat to all the other conservation groups.
All day market with gifts, food, art, crafts, information and entertainment from Forest & Bird Waitakere, Birds New Zealand, The Entomological Society, Whitebait Connection, Kauri Rescue, Auckland Council Biodiversity, Auckland Zoo, PestFreeWaitakereRangesAlliance (PFWRA), Sue Beesley’s Honey, Bethells Beanz coffee, home baking, BBQ— (vegan and non-vegan) and much more.
