The Wellbeing Economy Alliance Aotearoa is proud to host the Economy for Public Good Conference at AUT in Auckland, on 31st August, 2023.
This major conference will be the first in New Zealand’s history focusing on redesigning our economic system to deliver for the public good.
Highlighting the range of modern economic approaches from Māori, Wellbeing, Ecological, Circular, Doughnut and Degrowth Economics this one day event will be a must attend for change-makers, policy-makers, economists, businesses doing good and anyone who wants systemic change to address the most pressing challenges Aotearoa faces.
With an international keynote speaker, inspiring presentations by New Zealand thought leaders, in-depth breakout sessions covering a range of diverse areas, and a political panel asking the tough systemic questions of politicians six weeks before the election, the Economy for Public Good will herald new thinking at this critical time.
Why is WEAll Aotearoa organising the Economy for Public Good Conference?
2023 is election year and the economy will be front and centre. It is a crucial time for New Zealand to ask how the economy can work for the public good - a future in which we can all thrive.
Across Aotearoa and around the world people realise economic progress is more than simply Gross Domestic Product or growth from any source. The mark of an economy that really works, is that it works for people delivering a good life for everyone, in a way that is truly sustainable so future generations can also thrive. Around the world, governments, communities, and businesses are developing new economic approaches to halt damage to the environment and restore it. To solve the big challenges of our age - from climate change and biodiversity loss to inequality and social cohesion - it is clear that we will need to lay down new economic tracks.
The Economy for Public Good Conference is designed to connect a diverse range of thinkers across Aotearoa on a platform to talk about systems, solutions, new ideas and policies; and to celebrate where this is already happening in our businesses and communities.
Who should attend the Economy for Public Good Conference?
300 attendees are expected to attend from across New Zealand. This will include policy-makers, economists, local and central government elected representatives, members of the businesses, academic and community sectors, students & NGOs. We are targeting policy and social influencers to attend to connect with other leaders in their fields.
