The new toolbox is a free, easy-to-use online tool that shows businesses how to reduce emissions. It Is hosted on business.govt.nz and was created by the Sustainable Business Network together with our partners.
Over the past five months more than 5,500 businesses have completed the toolbox assessment which identifies the key areas for taking action.
We're now working with regional business networks and local councils to develop a nationwide series of Climate Action Workshops for Businesses. They are designed to help businesses find out how to get the most from the toolbox so they can develop a climate action plan and put it into practice.
The first workshop was held in Tauranga last week and was attended by more than 25 businesses.
We were delighted to partner with Priority One, the local economic development agency, and Tauranga City Council. Both organisations are striving to support local businesses and see the toolbox as a great way to engage them.
The four-hour workshop run by the SBN team included CEO Rachel Brown, Programme Manager (Climate) Phil Jones, who led the development of the toolbox, and Network Coordinator Ayla Irving-Lamb. It included activities to help attendees understand the best opportunities, as well as tips on how to successfully introduce change within their business.
Shae Skellern from strategic communications agency The Shine Collective said the workshop had been invaluable. “We’re now fired up to get cracking with some additional initiatives in our offices. It also got us thinking about how we can help our clients to share their sustainability stories too and encourage a few on their own sustainability journeys.”
