Extended supplier responsibility is an important part of a circular economy. It's an issue we encourage all solution seekers to discuss with their suppliers. Working in collaboration with a supplier to procure a less wasteful strapping option, as well as asking it to take responsibility for the packaging of its product, is a powerful tool that this organisation can use for change.
Waste Management recommended the organisation encourage its supplier to:
- Switch to a reusable strapping option - cord strapping options with removable buckles are available and can be used over and over again.
- Switch to a metal strapping option. Metal is a much easier and more effective to recycle.
- If these solutions aren’t available, switch to a polypropylene (PP) strapping option. PET strapping is difficult to recycle and therefore should be avoided but PP is a lot more widely accepted.
