Mindful Money is a consumer-facing charity that aims to make money a force for good. A starting point is transparency. Every year, Mindful Money surveys the New Zealand public to understand people’s knowledge, and perception of, ethical investment, as well as the issues New Zealanders would like to avoid in their investments.
As more companies embrace sustainability and consumers seek out ethical brands, there’s been a rapid growth of firms trumpeting their green credentials. However, this has been accompanied by a proliferation of claims of ‘greenwashing’. For businesses wanting to let their customers know about their good work, it can be confusing to know how to communicate it.
We realise taking climate action often ends up in the ‘too hard’ basket due to all the other demands of running a business. That’s why we created the Climate Action Toolbox. The free online Toolbox makes it easy for you to create your own emissions reduction plan and includes step-by-step guides.
The extreme weather events over the last month have been devastating for countless people and businesses in the North Island. The people affected have been very much in our hearts and minds. However what is often overlooked is the influence of their investments. At SBN we want to ensure our money is used as a force for good. That’s why we’ve invested in the new Climate Venture Capital Fund.
Once just a corporate buzzword, sustainability has now cemented its place in the mainstream business agenda. No longer considered a 'nice to have', it has become a critical cornerstone of everyday business operations. Today, the majority of the world's big brands and corporations employ skilled sustainability teams to navigate the journey.
This month we are celebrating 20 years of the Sustainable Business Network! SBN started out as a tiny outfit operating off the smell of an oily rag in a dilapidated garage. We’ve grown to become the largest sustainable business organisation in Aotearoa New Zealand with 24 staff, based in Auckland’s CBD. Our work has expanded from networking, events and one-on-one support to encompass projects designed to shift whole systems.
