AgriSea NZ manufactures liquid seaweed concentrates from native seaweed for agriculture and horticulture. It specialises in bioactive extractions that add high value nutrition for soil, plant, animal and human health.
The company has developed a management pathway for farmers to reduce their impact on our landscapes and waterways, along with solutions to climate change, through soil carbon storage.
The initial research was carried out on a single farm, starting in 2015. All synthetic fertilisers were replaced with AgriSea biostimulants, as well as introducing pasture diversity and new grazing practices. As a result, the farm has cut fertiliser expenditure by more than $100,000 per year without any loss in productivity. There has been reduced nitrate leaching and increased carbon storage in the soil.
AgriSea is now supporting farmers with transition plans nationally. Research on these regenerative farming practices continues.
