Catherine Lea is Marine Research and Conservation Officer at Auckland Whale and Dolphin Safari. She manages a wide range of activities at the company related to research, conservation and sustainability. These range from organising new research projects and building relationships, to ensuring people separate waste on board boats, and starting a blog on the company website. In her spare time she helps with marine mammal research and volunteers for the Department of Conservation.
Catherine has played a key role in developing and implementing conservation-based learning experiences as part of the company’s offering. She has trained five interns on marine mammal observation since March, and she has improved the company’s sustainability impact by sourcing eco-friendly consumables, such as reusable coffee cups.
