For over 10 years Gary has volunteered his time, energy and resources to create an organisation that addresses social and environmental issues. He has developed a business model to harness the skills of unemployed people to look after the environment.
Gary established a community enterprise that generates 80% of its own income. Through Te Whangai Trust he has shown that welfare can be an investment, not a cost.
Te Whangai Trust has transformed the lives of 600 New Zealand families by transitioning them into employment and improving their financial wellbeing. Through the Trust, Gary has created opportunities for people to create new destinies despite past struggles in life.
Gary Dalton is a finalist in the Sustainability Superstar category of the 2017 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards.
